PSBT festival

Post dated post. But who even reads this anymore to care except loving parents and persistent stalkers...

Decided to drop by the PSBT festival today since G- is a part of it and made it sound exciting! Ate lunch at Eatopia and realised that when you eat alone, people look at you weirdly but when you whip out a book, you attract no attention. But I had no book. Just two huge chole bhaturas.

Three Short British Documentaries and the first one, Don't Worry was wonderful! About oil and its impact on the environment but nicely told, muppet style, with two TV journalists shown through muppets. They're buying the official Exxon line and looking pleased that big oil companies are willing to save the cacti in the desert they're plundering... that theyre looking out for the environment (remember the Shell ad?)and so on. Being Tv reporters, they don't get the environmentalists' warnings about these reassurances being "greenwash" and meant to deflect attention from the real, big issues at stake. Lots of irony, lots of humour. So much nicer than sad shots of birds dying in oil slicks. I haven't seen so many engaging films/videos in India which use cartoons/muppets/humour to tackle a complex issue like this.

The audience, mostly kids, didn't seem to get it though. And the great thing about students? They have no qualms telling the director his film just didn't work for them!
