Suppressing the subaltern

We've been hearing, from Deepu and other Pedi Pics guys, that there is a lot of discrimination against Dalits during the tsunami relief. They are being edged out of relief camps and alienated from supply streams. But nobody seems to be writing about it, apparently even the IE journo who was told about it didn't do the story.

It seems like there is a certain definite construct even while covering tragedy; certain 'easy' formulae that you don't want to disrupt for fear of an already distrubed audience being further shaken out of their careful balance. So to see the 'victim', the fisherman, suddenly swivelling into 'perpetrator of injustice' role would disturb people. So keep the balance and make it easy since people are already so jolted out of their slumber by the event, you wouldn't want to shake them more than can be helped. (If that makes any sense...!)
